Runaway cult classic Stranger Things consistently turns our world Upside Down (natch), but this latest revelation has pretty much changed everything.

Namely, the Will Byers who we know, love and continually worry about was nearly played by a totally different person.

And that's because Noah Schnapp, who plays Will, originally auditioned for the role of Mike Wheeler – since immortalised by Finn Wolfhard.

Chatting to NKD magazine about his introduction to the world of Stranger Things, Noah also revealed that the series was originally called Montauk.

Now that is strange.

Explaining that he got the news of his role while at summer camp, Noah said (via Just Jared): "They called me and they were like, 'Hey, Noah!' and I was like, 'Who's this?'"

Unsurprisingly, Noah didn't keep his cool for much longer, as the casting team soon reminded him what his "exciting" new gig was all about.

Although his heart might have been set on Mike originally, Noah soon settled into the idea of playing sweetheart Will.

"I thought it would be really cool to play a role where I go missing and people look for me and I'm in this other world," he said.

In equally shocking Stranger Things news, it turns out actor Joe Keery and his impressive hair originally tried out for the role of Jonathan Byers, now played by Charlie Heaton.

Admitting that his original audition tape didn't illicit much of a response from the Duffer brothers, Joe added that he wasn't too fussed about missing out on the part.

Joe revealed that he didn't think he had "the right look" for the character. Steve Harrington, on the other hand? Different story.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix right now.
