The Stow-Munroe Falls City School District is mourning the recent loss of a longtime teacher known for her commitment to her students, family and community.

Sarah Calaway, 53, a Tallmadge resident, died of complications from surgery March 2, according to a family Facebook post. She was a teacher at Lakeview Intermediate School.

"There are so many people she impacted," said Laura E. Forchione, the school district's director of technology integration and public relation.

Forchione described Calaway as a kind and caring teacher and mother. "That is the way Sarah was," she said.

Her paid obituary described her as a "consummate daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend."

"Her love for Jesus was infused in everything she put her hand to," the obituary said. "From teaching, singing, to pottery, chickens, beekeeping, being a mother hen to countless students at Lakeview Intermediate School, she did it all in grace and style."

In a message posted to her Facebook page, her family said: "We are heartbroken and even more homesick. We appreciate all the prayers, love and support as we grieve this unimaginable loss."

Condolences shared on social media from friends and past students described Calaway as a warm and caring person.

Calaway was preceded in death by her daughter Alyssa. She is survived by her husband, Steve; son, Stephen (Hannah); and daughter, Emma; brother, David; sister Laura (Zach); parents, David and Mary Homsher; parents-in-law, Denny and Cheryl Calaway; sister-in law, Carrie (Bryan); many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation and services were held last week at the Donovan Funeral Home. Interment took place at Tallmadge Cemetery.
