6 Books You Won't Mind Reading on Repeat to Your Toddler
I've read a lot of books to my kids. By no means does that make me an expert, but it does make me very sure that I don't want to read another Paw Patrol book for a while. The Paw Patrol show? I can handle watching the show, but something happens when you place the antics of Sky, Chase, Zuma and friends onto the pages of a book. The book version always seems to have more characters than I can keep up with and sentences that are too long. I don't know where you stand on the Paw Patrol book debate, but I can be sure of this: if you're a grown up with kids around, there are some books that you would be fine misplacing for a bit. There are some books that need to go hang out with the toy drum set my toddler got last Christmas. Not in the trash, of course, just in a box to take a nap for a few months.
Hippos Go Berserk by Sandra Boynton
The Rabbit Listened by Cory Doerrfeld
Dragons Love Tacos
Listen to My Trumpet by Mo Willems
This Moose Belongs to Me by Oliver Jeffers
I'm Not Scared, You're Scared! by Seth Meyers
While those powerful pups are MIA, I'm subbing in some other stories that are much more worthy of repeat reads. My suggestion? Grab a small wooden dishrack (yep, you heard me) and use it to display 8-10 books. The books will be easily visible and within reach and your kiddos won't even be worried about why the other books disappeared.
A fun, short read with bold, engaging illustrations. Count the hippos as they all gather for an epic hippo party. Great for preschool and up.
A short read but still an incredibly full story about kindness and compassion. The animal characters and funny dialogue will engage younger children and as they grow they will connect with the meaning of the story.
A well known favorite! Dragons are always a hit with kids and this humorous story makes it a fun read for adults too. Pair this with Taco Tuesday dinner and you've won the award for best grown up in the world! Hot take: the sequel to this books isn't as good.
Be warned: this book is asking a lot from the reader! Brush up on your best trumpet sounds and animated reading skills. Truthfully, you may need a rest after three or four rounds of this one, but the giggles it elicits are totally worth it.
From the same author and illustrator as The Day the Crayons Quit, this book chronicles Wilfred's quest to control his pet moose. It's funny, it's sweet and a story that the adults will enjoy too.
A funny book about feelings that grows with your toddler over the years. The bear and bunny duo are hilarious and relatable as they tackle bear's fear of ...well...everything.
