The BBC Music Awards celebrated the cream of the crop of British hip-hop, rock, grime, pop and any other genre you could possibly imagine during its annual gala.

Strictly Come Dancing's Claudia Winkleman and Clara Amfo handed out a handful of awards during the BBC's The Year in Music 2017 special on Friday (December 8). And what a year it was!

Stormzy was the night's big winner as the recipient of Artist of the Year, capping off a whirlwind 12 months that have seen him become the first-ever grime artist to land a UK number-one album with Gang Signs & Prayer.

"I'm actually blessed to be able to say that I'm an artist that's managed to be regarded as someone that's worthy of this award," he said in his acceptance speech.

Stormzy follows in the footsteps of Ed Sheeran, Adele and Coldplay in collecting the prestigious BBC Music Award for Artist of the Year.

Other major winners included Rag'n'Bone Man's Human being named British Album of the Year, and singer-songwriter Declan McKenna emerging as BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year.

To nobody's surprise, Foo Fighters' triumphant headlining set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this past summer earned them the Live Performance of the Year Award.

"It really did just turn into this one big ball of love and energy and celebration and music," Dave Grohl remembered. "That's what you want every show to be, but when it's on that scale it's a big feeling."

Dua Lipa, Nick Grimshaw, Mistajam and Jo Whiley also joined Claudia Winkleman and Clara Amfo on The Year in Music 2017, which aired on BBC Two.
