Scattered showers, thunderstorms expected across New Mexico Thursday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are pushing through the middle Rio Grande Valley, including the Metro, and other parts of northern, western and southern New Mexico. A low pressure system is moving over the state, and a backdoor cold front is pushing through the Rio Grande Valley.

The scattered showers and storms will continue all day. Strong and severe storms will be possible in the southeast plains this afternoon, with threats of small hail and damaging wind gusts. The severe threat will end by 9 PM. Flood watches will in effect for the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Sacramento Mountains, due to a threat of burn scar flooding. If you live near the Hermit’s Peak Calf Canyon, Cerro Pelado, Mcbride or Black Fire burn scars, be sure to have a flooding safety plan ready to go. The Metro will see scattered rain this morning, with isolated storms this afternoon and evening. Temperatures will stay about 10 to 25 degrees cooler today across the state. Friday will be a drier, sunnier and warmer day.
