Stormy Monday: High winds, heavy rain expected

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — High winds and heavy rain are expected Monday afternoon with our latest cold front moving through the region.

The worst of the weather will be arriving during our afternoon commute, between 4 and 8 p.m., with the strongest storms around 6.

Caution is urged with winds gusting to 40 mph and heavy rain, making for dangerous traveling conditions.

Todd Demers advised drivers to get where they’re going either before the storms arrive or wait until after. He said people might want to tie down things like garbage cans.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the Mid-South in either a Marginal or Slight risk for severe weather. An Enhanced risk has been issued across central Mississippi.

The National Weather Service in Memphis said these lines of storms could pose a risk of a quick spin-up tornado threat.

After Monday, the rest of the week looks clear and calm.
