Storms packing gusty winds knock out power to thousands across the Carolinas

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Scattered storms are rolling across the Carolinas Thursday, leaving a number of Duke Energy customers in the dark.

Strong winds moved through Chesterfield County around 8 a.m. Thursday, April 11, taking a few large trees down, knocking down power lines, and cutting power in downtown Chesterfield.

The Chesterfield County courthouse lost power and Main Street was blocked off. Tree and power line damage was found along Highway 9 from Ruby/Mt. Croghan to Chesterfield.

Duke Energy reported more than 900 customers were without power in the Chesterfield area Thursday morning. More than 400 customers lost power across Charlotte.

In Chesterfield, a repair crew was assigned to restore service and will proceed to the location as soon as the crew is available, Duke Energy reported.

In the Charlotte area, Duke Energy said a crew was dispatched to the scene near Freedom Park. Across the Carolinas, thousands were without power Thursday from the passing storms.

Showers will linger into the afternoon until the storm system can pull far enough off to the northeast.
