Storms moving across city cut power to 16K, delays, cancels hundreds of flights

The Queen City was hit by more severe thunderstorms on Sunday evening, impacting multiple people and industries.

According to Duke Energy’s Outage Map, more than 16,000 people are without power in Mecklenburg County. Crews are working to restore power and expect to be finished by 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

At Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, thousands of travelers are stranded as flight delays and cancellations continue to climb.

According to FlightAware, there were a total of 464 delays and 46 cancellations as of 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
