Storm Track 3 Forecast: Smooth sailing rest of workweek, weekend rain chances

Today will be an active day for severe weather to the east of us.  There is a Moderate Risk for severe weather and multiple watches ranging from Severe Thunderstorm to Tornado Watches from Missouri through Tennessee are in effect.  All forms of severe weather will be possible for these folks.

As for us, we are quiet.  The atmosphere is dry, and it feels comfortable.  All the moisture has been shifted to the east in the active severe weather zone.  A pleasant evening here at home turns into a cool night.  The breeze we gained today will settle after sunset.

Thursday through Friday we continue this gorgeous stretch.

A system will get cutoff from the flow to the southwest.  This will slowly track our way and increase rain and storm chances this weekend.  Southwest Kansas dips its toes into the unsettled waters first Saturday evening.

More of western Kansas has a shot for a hit or miss shower or storm Sunday.  Some of this activity may try to branch off and succeed into central Kansas before waning.

This system will keep moving at a snail’s pace providing more hit or miss showers and thunderstorms Monday into next Tuesday.

Instability looks low so widespread severe weather is not expected early next week.  We will have more moisture added to the air making it feel more humid starting Sunday night.

Instability tries to build back by Wednesday into Thursday of next week with the arrival of another system.  This could spark a few stronger storms.  If model data comes to fruition, this could be a decent shot of much needed rain for most of the state.
