Storm takes roof off Haven Fire Station

HAVEN, Kan. (KSNW) — A fire station was heavily damaged during Sunday’s storm. The mayor of Haven says the roof blew off Reno County Fire District 9 Haven Fire Station.

Mayor Adam Wright said Reno County Emergency Management got involved, sending numerous EMS personnel and firefighters to check everyone’s safety. He said it did not appear that anyone had been injured.

About 15 power poles snapped.

“We have partnered with KPP, and they’ve sent out some crews from some other communities to help us with our lines and all that, get those up and running again,” he said.

Wright said most of the damage in Haven is from fallen trees and branches. He said people are stepping up to help.

“We’ve had neighbors in our community join together and become a city of helping each other out and just becoming neighborly,” he said. “An elderly lady had a limb on her house, and the neighbors came over and pulled it off and got it out of her doorway, and so being a community, we’re finding out exactly what that is today.”

Wright is not surprised about all the people volunteering. He grew up in Haven.

“It’s not my first dealing with becoming a community, coming together as one large group,” he said. “It just makes a small town feeling even better.”

For people with storm debris, Wright says the city dump is open.

“If you’re able to load and remove the limbs off your property, please do so. If you’re not able to, please stack them as close to the curb as possible,” he said. “We will try to assist on removing them.”
