Man in wheelchair hit, killed by train in Vicksburg

VICKSBURG, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a man in a wheelchair was hit and killed by a train in Vicksburg.

The Vicksburg Police Department said it happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday. The railroad crossing warning bells, lights and crossing arms were working at the time.

Police have not released the man of the 82-year-old Vicksburg man.

The train was on the Canadian National rail line, Kalamazoo County dispatchers say. The village of Vicksburg warned the crossings at Spruce, Richardson, Main and Boulevard streets were blocked.

Dispatchers said around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday that the roads would blocked for an “undetermined’ amount of time. At 4:40 p.m., dispatch confirmed that the train moved and all crossings were clear to traffic except the N Richardson Street crossing.
