Stolen vehicle shears pole in Lewiston; driver accused of DWAI

LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Niagara County Sheriff’s office says a woman drove a stolen car while impaired by drugs, crashing into and shearing off a utility pole in Lewiston after hitting another vehicle Monday morning.

Authorities said it happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Lower Mountain Road in the area of Bond Lake.

After investigating, deputies and Lewiston police concluded that Sarah Becker was driving east when she crossed into the westbound lane and struck another vehicle before continuing into the pole, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s office.

The vehicle she was allegedly driving was reported stolen from an address on Upper Mountain Road in Cambria on Sunday, leading to a charge of criminal possession of stolen property against her.

Additionally, deputies said Becker showed signs of impairment at the scene. She was taken into custody and charged with DWAI by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

The Sheriff’s office said additional charges may be pending.
