Stolen vehicle found in San Joaquin River in Madera County, deputies say

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A stolen vehicle was found in the San Joaquin River in Madera County on Saturday, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies say the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a report of a submerged vehicle in the San Joaquin River in Madera County around 10 a.m. on May 11.

Upon arrival, sheriff’s officials say they located a vehicle in the water near the area of Chowchilla Canal Drive and Eastside Drive. After confirming no occupants were inside, the dive team was called to recover the SUV.

Dive team members removed the vehicle from the water, and deputies say it was later discovered the SUV had been reported as stolen out of Firebaugh.

This is an ongoing investigation.
