Stolen Mountaineer statue recovered successfully

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — A Mountaineer statue that was stolen from Tamarack Marketplace in Beckley was recovered successfully.

The West Virginia State Police and the on-site security team at Tamarack Marketplace worked together to recover a bronze Mountaineer statue that was stolen on Monday, February 26, 2024. The bronze statue, recovered on Thursday, February 29, 2024, was made by West Virginia artist, Burl Jones, and is a symbol of West Virginia’s history.

Tamarack Marketplace’s security team and the West Virginia State Police Troop 7 Parkways worked together to launch an investigation into the theft of the statue.

From the very beginning of the investigation, the Troopers assigned made it their mission to bring the Mountaineer Statue back home.

The efforts of the investigation were successful in locating the statue in pristine condition a couple days after it was stolen. Billy Paul Brown, of Pax, was arrested by West Virginia State Police, Troop 7 Troopers, and charged with one count of Grand Larceny.
