Stockton Record Student of the Week: Venture Academy's Annasofia Anders

The votes are in and The Record's Student of the Week for the week of April 15-21 is Venture Academy's Annasofia Anders.

In an online poll that closed on Thursday, the high school sophomore received 79.6% of votes cast for a total of 1,247 votes.

This is what Anders' teacher, Alex Sabedra, shared about her:

“Sofie is an excellent student who embraces academic challenges and only turns in her best work. In addition to her academic achievements, she also uses her incredible artistic ability to showcase mastery of content in a variety of ways. Sofie has also explored important topics in her past Defense of Mastery presentations that have positively impacted our academy, including a campaign to get her peers to be more aware of current events as one example."

Archana Prasad was the runner-up with 20.4% of votes cast for a total of 319 votes.

The nominations for next week's poll will be published online at Recordnet.com on Monday. Voting will run through noon Thursday.

School officials have the opportunity to nominate high school students. Nominations are accepted each week.

Original story: It's a brand new week, which means it's time to vote for another deserving student in The Record's Student of the Week contest.

This week, all eyes are on Venture Academy Family of Schools. Two outstanding students from Venture were nominated, and the one who receives the most votes by the end of the week will be named the winner.

Voting is open until noon on Thursday. The winner will be announced online at Recordnet.com on Friday and featured in Sunday's print edition.

Archana Prasad, junior, Venture Academy Family of Schools: “Archana is a dedicated student who always gives her best effort. She is a student athlete who is also working toward earning her AA degree with the TEACH! program. She continues to excel in all that she does while still holding herself to a strong level of integrity," teacher Molly Brigham said.

“Archana is an outstanding young person. She is kind, committed to school work, and a passionate student-athlete. Archana has participated in Venture athletics since 9th grade, and her greatest love is basketball. She is also scheduled to receive her AA degree from Delta College upon graduation from Venture, showing her immense work ethic and commitment to academics. In addition to her stellar academic performance, Archana is the student representative on the Venture Academy Governing Board, and she is a member of TEACH! Academy's student leadership team. She has attended Venture Academy since kindergarten, has positive relationships with students and staff, and continues to be a bright light in our school community," teacher Megan Filice said.

Students were nominated by participating San Joaquin County high school principals, teachers, and guidance counselors for outstanding academic achievement and character. All public and private high schools in the county are welcome to participate in the weekly contest.
