Stocks slump as Hurricane Irma bears down on Caribbean

Stocks (^DJI, ^GSPC, ^IXIC) are mixed to down at the midday mark, with the energy (XLE) sector the most in the red, while financials (XLF) are the most in the green. Keith Bliss of Cuttone & Co. joins us live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.

Tesla management told employees Monday that the recent layoffs -- which gutted some departments by 20% and even hit high performers -- were largely due to poor financial performance, a source familiar with the matter told TechCrunch.
