Stocks slightly higher as Comey written testimony released

Winners and losers

Stocks in the red today include United Natural Foods as the food distributor missed on the top line citing softness in its retail business, IMAX as analysts at Benchmark downgraded shares to to “hold” citing disappointing box office returns, and Ambarella – shares of the chipmaker dropping as the key GoPro supplier’s current quarter forecast missed expectations.

Stocks in the green today include Tesla as CEO Elon Musk claimed an upcoming Model Y will be its most popular vehicle yet, Dave and Busters as earnings and revenue topped estimates, and Sears – shares of the troubled retailer moving higher today after it announced 72 store closures, this on top of the 180 it revealed earlier this year.

Looking ahead

  • At 8:30 AM Eastern we’ll get jobless claims for the week. The street’s expecting 241,000 initial claims, slightly below the prior week.

  • Earnings reports are still trickling out with Dell Technologies, JM Smucker, and Vail Resorts.
