🌱 Still No Animal Shelter RFP From Mayor + Landmark At 98.53%

Good morning, neighbors, and happy National Green Juice Day! Sylvia here with a brand-new edition of the Woonsocket Daily.

Why is the Mayor not issuing the RFP the Council wants? Also, the Center is almost at capacity. Finally, Scoops won’t reopen.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and colder. High: 25 Low: 2.

Here are the top five stories in Woonsocket today:

  1. The Albert G. Brien Memorial Animal Shelter at 105 Cumberland Hill Road and Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt are in the news again. City Councilor Denise Sierra explains that the council passed an ordinance “to issue a request for proposals, or RFP, for the shade pavilion as well as a 20 foot by 20 foot addition and painting the inside and outside of the building.” The Mayor asked for a three-week extension 10 days after the deadline lapsed. To date, there’s still no RFP. (The Valley Breeze)

  2. Tuesday’s hospital capacity numbers are sobering. The Landmark Medical Center has 81.6 adult inpatient beds, of which 80.4 are occupied. This means that 98.53% of inpatient beds are in use. However, only 28.7 beds are occupied by patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19. (Patch)

  3. We learned January 12 that Scoops in Smithfield won’t open for the 2022 season. The company has been faithfully serving customers from around the area for the last decade. “I will miss it all and with the end of this Era, a new one will begin,” its social media post stated. (WPRI)

  4. The La Cantina Winery Company in Franklin is inviting you to a wine & chocolate tasting. Scheduled for Friday, you can participate in person or by Zoom. You can pick up the wine and chocolate at the venue. (La Cantina Winery)

  5. PT Floor Covering at 91 North Main Street is Tuesday’s business of the day. The company has been serving customers for more than 25 years. Whether you’re in the market for laminate flooring, have your eye on new carpeting, or would like to try some vinyl flooring, check out PT Floor Covering. (@WoonsocketRadio, PT Floor Covering)
