Stewartville's Lamb named Gatorade Player of the Year in Minnesota

May 6—The honors keep flowing in for Stewartville High School volleyball star Erin Lamb.

The first-team All-State player and Post Bulletin Player of the Year in 2020 picked up her biggest award to date on Thursday morning.

That's when the 6-foot-2 senior was named the Gatorade Minnesota Volleyball Player of the Year.

Lamb, an outside hitter who will play this coming school year for national champion University of Kentucky, was thrilled with this latest prize. Not only did the award factor in volleyball prowess, but also community service, leadership and scholastic achievements.

Lamb has been a volunteer at the Rochester Salvation Army and her church, has been a youth coach, helped guide the Stewartville volleyball team to an 11-0 record this season, and carries a 3.75 grade point average.

"I am really proud of this, because it recognizes things outside of volleyball, too, like school and character," Lamb said. "To be recognized for those things and as a good person means a lot to me."

Her volleyball play certainly drew the most attention. Lamb, who helped the Tigers to a state championship in 2019 (there was no state tournament last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic), had 134 kills, 80 digs and 21 serves aces. She also had a .479 kill percentage and a .388 hitting percentage.

Lamb finished her high school career as a four-time first-team All-State selection.

Now, Lamb is preparing to head off to Kentucky. She graduates from Stewartville on June 6 and leaves for Lexington on June 9.

She can't wait.

"To know that I am going there is honestly an amazing feeling," Lamb said. "I feel like I am that little girl who wanted to play at the highest level and then had her dreams come true. To walk into that (Kentucky) gym the first day, it will be unreal."
