Steve Wozniak talks about Apple’s court victory over Samsung and the iPhone 5
Last month, a jury in California found Samsung guilty of infringing Apple’s patented technology. The South Korean manufacturer was ordered to pay Apple (AAPL) $1.05 billion in damages, however Samsung (005930) has said it will appeal the ruling. The ongoing patent dispute between the two companies has been criticized by Google and other predominant figures in the industry, including none other than Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.
“I hate it. I don’t think the decision of California will hold. And I don’t agree with it — very small things I don’t really call that innovative,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg. “I wish everybody would just agree to exchange all the patents and everybody can build the best forms they want to use everybody’s technologies.”
Samsung manufactures a number of smartphones and tablets that use Google’s (GOOG) Android operating system, and has recently emerged as Apple’s biggest competitor while remaining one of its largest suppliers of components as well. Samsung last year accounted for 19.1% of worldwide smartphone shipments, compared with Apple’s 18.8%.
Wozniak has previously revealed that he uses a number of different mobile devices, including some from Apple and its competitors. Most recently, he has been using a Galaxy S III, however he is interested in the iPhone 5 for its camera technology.
“I am always excited about every iPhone product because there are always good advances,” Wozniak said. “A better quality on the pictures will mean a lot, because when I show people pictures on my iPhone 4 and my Galaxy S III, they always say the Galaxy S III, or even the Motorola Razr, pictures look better.”
