Steps to take after your power is restored following a storm

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Crews with Carthage Water and Electric as well as Paschal Air, Plumbing and Electric say as power is restored, there are some things you’ll want to do.

The most recommended tip is checking your HVAC system; making sure its connected and turned on are the first signs to check for to know its back on.

It’s also recommended to check your laundry appliances and all light switches. As for internet, Carthage Water and Electric recommends rebooting Wi-Fi routers by turning them on and off.

But officials suggest to double check your home is fully functional with a professional.

“If you find yourself where just part of your stuff’s working in your house and some things are not. Definitely want to have a professional come out and see what’s going on. You can definitely still have a generator installed after the fact. You just want to make sure that everything’s tip top by a professional,” said Kevin Mynatt, HVAC service manager, Paschal Air, Plumbing and Electric.

“Now that power has been restored to all the homes that we can get service to work closely with your electrician if you’re still without power, make sure that they communicate with us as to when that service is ready to be hooked back up. And the repairs have been made,” said Chuck Bryant, General Manager, CWEP.

Bryant says since 10 a.m. Thursday power has been restored to most residents in Carthage. He said at it’s peak, the number of customers without power was over 2,000.

Bryant also encourages residents to continue to stay alert to line workers working in the field.
