Stephen Colbert thanks Trump for 'presidential' response to Barcelona attack

Famed Donald Trump detractor Stephen Colbert opened The Late Show With Stephen Colbert by thanking the president for his response to the tragic Barcelona terrorist attack. Trump tweeted, "The United States condemns the terror attack in Barcelona, Spain, and will do whatever is necessary to help. Be tough & strong, we love you!" Colbert said of the tweet, "Thank you, sir. Simple. Dignified. Presidential." While Colbert was thankful for the initial tweet, he was not pleased with Trump's tweet that followed shortly after. The president tweeted, "Study what General Pershing of the United States did to terrorists when caught. There was no more Radical Islamic Terror for 35 years!" Trump was referring to alleged incident in which Pershing executed 49 Muslim POW's, during the Philippine-American War, using bullets dipped in pig's blood. Trump alleges the general then let one Muslim prisoner go so that he could tell the others, which resulted in years of peace, Colbert pointed out that this story has been unanimously disproven by historians. Though Colbert did share a Pershing quote that he reminded him of Trump. The quote was "A competent leader can get efficient service from poor troops, while, on the contrary, an incapable leader can demoralize the best of troops."
