Upon hearing the news that Steve Whitmire, the man who has voiced Kermit the Frog for the past 27 years, was stepping down, Stephen Colbert had a short list of possible replacements at the ready. We got to see exactly what those auditions might look like on The Late Show. The best part about the bit was that Colbert used real audio to highlight how decidedly un-Muppet-y his choices were.

Up first, we heard some real audio from White House press secretary Sean Spicer coming out of Kermit’s mouth in the form of his now infamous gaffe about Adolf Hitler, Bashar Assad, and chemical weapons.

Then we were treated to some audio from Donald Trump Jr. involving his Russia emails. But Colbert didn’t stop with just Don Jr. and Spicey. He took it all the way to the top, with audio from POTUS himself.
