Steelers on the rise in latest NFL power rankings

After four-straight losses crippled the Steelers in the NFL’s weekly power rankings that once had that as high as number one after the first two weeks, they’ve rebounded a bit, thanks to three-straight wins.

Thanks to an impressive victory over the Giants at Heinz Field this past Sunday, not only does Pittsburgh remain in a tie with the Ravens for first place in the AFC North, the black and gold moved up four spots to fourth in ESPN.com’s latest power rankings.

Here’s what the World Wide Leader had to say:

“Ladarius Green is stepping up as yet another weapon at quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s disposal after setting a career high with 110 receiving yards against the Giants. The Bills are the next team that gets to figure out how to stop Green over the middle and Antonio Brown on the outside.”

That’s what I call a match-up problem.

Yeah, okay, but what about notoriously tough Steelers grader Elliot Harrison over at NFL.com? While Pittsburgh is ninth in his latest rankings, he did move the team up five spots, this week, as opposed to four.

Baby steps.

Green’s big day: Green has breakout game against Giants

Here’s what he had to say:

“Sizable jump for the Steelers, who are up five spots following the convincing win over the Giants at the Ketchup Bottle. The championship-caliber offense managed to inhibit itself with a few drops and penalties, making us all wonder what’s going to happen when some poor team feels the brunt of what this explosive group can do when all the stars are aligned. That’s something we haven’t seen in the late two postseasons due to injuries. I don’t care if it’s the Patriots, the Raiders or the AFC South sacrificial lamb–if someone draws a Pittsburgh offense firing on all cylinders, there will be blood. (Minus the sordid bowling-alley scene.)”

Tough grader or not, Harrison has me fired up for the prospects of a final championship push by the Steelers.

CBSSports.com has the Steelers just outside the top 10 at 11th this week, while USA Today has them up five spots to eighth place in the rankings.

As I’ve said before, this kind of stuff means nothing, but moving up in these mythical rankings (especially in December) is certainly better than the other way around.
