Steele Dismisses Blame for Convention Delay
Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is dismissing critics who are blaming him for the party’s decision to host a convention in hurricane-prone Florida.
With the first day of the Republican National Convention cancelled due to Tropical Storm Isaac, bumping speakers like former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and the roll call vote to nominate Mitt Romney, people are turning to the man who set the convention in motion two years ago.
“I get blamed for everything apparently these days,” Steele said on MSNBC’s Up with Chris Hayes. “I’m convenient. … We set this in motion two years ago. Like we could forecast the weather?”
Steele continued, laughing, “You’ll be a little wet.”
The RNC chose Tampa over Salt Lake City and Phoenix. In 2008, the RNC had to shorten its convention in Minnesota to three days as well.
