Steamed seafood & crab eatery opening soon in Dauphin County

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A steamed seafood and crab restaurant that first opened in Steelton, will soon debut a new location in Harrisburg.

Bam’s Crab Place is owned and operated by Midstate native Tamar Gann, who first founded her seafood business back in 2016. During this time, Gann worked at Piccolo’s Cafe in Harrisburg, where she first started bringing in crabs for her co-workers and eventually customers as well.

This served as the initial inspiration for Gann to launch of Bam’s Crab Place.

“You know when I first started [Bam’s Crab Place] we had a lot of ups and downs,” Gann explained. “Learning everything about how to run a business was hard!”

Gann would eventually go on to open her first brick-and-mortar location for Bam’s Crab Place in Steelton, Pa., but closed back in June of 2022 following building maintenance issues that eventually caused the ceiling to collapse inside the dining room.

Recently, Gann shared that she would soon be opening a new 668-square-foot location at the Strawberry Square in Harrisburg, on 320 Market Street (space 178).

According to Gann, her establishment will offer a variety of seafood eats and entrees such as snow legs, whole lobsters, seafood bowls, shrimp, soups, and her popular steamed crabs.

Furthermore, Bam’s Crab Place will also feature their own homemade garlic butter sauce.

The new Bam’s Crab Place location is set to make its official debut in Harrisburg on Wednesday, May 1. Once open, their hours of operation will be:

  • Mondays – Fridays // 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Saturdays // 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“I am looking to run a clean business – I just want to give the customers what they want because they deserve it after all of the support they have given me,” Gann said. “The storefront and the [new] location are great!”
