Half the fun of making food is being complimented on your finished product. It's why we slave over the stove to make orange chicken when we could just pick up a bag of the frozen stuff at Trader Joe's. Or why we take the time to dye batter six different colors and make 30 thin crepes, when five nearby bakeries probably have rainbow foods on display.

But nothing gets quite as many ooos and aahs as an expertly decorated cake. Pro bakers will tell you piping flowers is easy - it's all in how you move your wrist. Countless Pinterest fails have proven differently though, which is why we were thrilled to find out about Russian piping tips. How they got their name is sort of a mystery: There are rumors they were invented in Moscow, and each tip represents a different Russian flower. Some say the first website to sell the tips arbitrarily called them that. The point is, they make fancy flowers really fast.

Unlike standard piping tips that have one large shaped hole, Russian tips have many intricate cut-outs. This means when you squeeze frosting out, an entire flower is formed, petals and all.

They're the trick behind this bouquet cake that'll make you do a double take.

And this gorgeous cupcake.

And this insane cake.

They take a little bit of practice, but listen: You know those compliments will be worth it.
