Staying windy as rain moves out; sunny and dry in the extended

5 PM UPDATE:

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Watching a few lingering light showers across the area this evening as the low pressure system continues to rotate off towards the east.

Winds will continue to be quite blustery across the southeast through Friday afternoon with gusts reaching upwards of 25 mph. These gusts could potentially topple some weakened limbs and trees.

Heading into the weekend, quieter conditions ahead in the forecast as temperatures climb into the upper 70s under sunny skies. Second half of the weekend becomes warmer with readings reaching the mid 80s. Sky conditions should stay sunny until next week.

Next week temperatures climb into the mid to upper 80s as high pressure builds across the southern United States. This ridge of high pressure will keep the extended forecast mostly dry while temperatures continue to heat up.

A few light showers do make their way into the extended forecast by next Friday at the current projection.
