State trooper injured after Turnpike crash in North Ridgeville

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a crash on the Ohio Turnpike sent a state trooper and another driver to the hospital Tuesday evening.

The crash happened around 5:14 p.m. on the Turnpike, near the State Route 10 interchange in North Ridgeville.

According to investigators, a patrol car was stopped on the shoulder of the Turnpike with its emergency lights on when a Honda HR-V went off the right side of the road and hit it.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda driver, a 65-year-old North Olmsted man, was suffering from a medical emergency when he crashed into the patrol car, according to OSHP.

The state trooper was taken to University Hospital Elyria Medical Center with minor injuries. The Honda driver was taken by ambulance to the hospital, investigators say.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
