State police seeking ID of masked duo in northern Berks pre-dawn burglary

Apr. 23—State police are seeking help in identifying two suspects in an attempted burglary over the weekend in Centre Township.

Security camera footage shows two would-be burglars, driving separate vehicles, parking alongside a barn on a property in the 200 block of Garfield Road shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday then walking to a property in the 100 block.

Investigators at the Hamburg station provided these additional details.

The pair, wearing masks covering the bottom half of their faces, walked to the detached garage of a residence. One of the suspects was observed carrying some type of pry bar. He failed in his attempt to pry open double-hung doors at the lock and latch.

They go to a side window where the same suspect tried to pry it open. At this point, the homeowner received a motion-alarm notification on his smartphone.

He yelled out to the intruders from his roof. The suspects bolted toward their vehicles and were last seen driving west on Garfield.

The vehicles appeared to be a white Honda Odyssey minivan and an older-model, white-with-gray-trim Dodge 1500 pickup truck.

The suspect who used the pry bar arrived in the minivan. He appeared to be thinly built. He wore what appeared to be a light-gray hooded sweatshirt.

The other suspect, who drove the pickup truck, was described as shorter than the other man and heavy-set. He wore what appeared to be a light-gray hooded sweatshirt and a gray mask under a jacket, and dark sneakers.

The second suspect had his hands in his jacket pocket and he appeared to be the lookout for the other suspect.
