State Police announce DUI checkpoints, patrols

Jun. 28—Those looking to celebrate the July 4 holiday with drinks are warned to not get behind the wheel.

Patrol officers with State Police Troop R will conduct sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols Saturday through Tuesday.

Intoxicated driving in Pennsylvania is defined as having a blood alcohol concentration of .08%, according to police. If convicted, a DUI offense can lead to license suspension, fines and prison time.

"The Pennsylvania State Police strongly encourages those who are out celebrating the Fourth of July and choose to consume alcohol to not operate a motor vehicle after doing such," police said in a news release. "Please choose an alternate mode of transportation."
