LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — State government offices in Carson City and four Nevada counties along the Sierra Nevada closed early as a storm arrived on Friday.

Gov. Joe Lombardo ordered all executive branch state government offices to close at 1:30 p.m. The road over Mount Rose summit near Lake Tahoe had already closed by then, and white-out conditions were reported at Donner Pass on Interstate 80 by midmorning on Friday. A 100-mile stretch of I-80 closed after 5 p.m., shutting down the road from the state line to Emigrant Gap, California.

The storm is expected to bring as much as 10 feet of snow to the Sierra Nevada. In Reno and Carson City, rain was in the Friday forecast, turning to snow at night.

The Governor’s Office cited severe weather and potentially dangerous road conditions worsening this afternoon as offices were ordered to close.

Essential public safety operations are continuing in Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, Storey County and Washoe County.

“The Governor’s office will continue to monitor weather conditions. Governor Lombardo urges northern Nevadans to take caution on roadways and to follow all NDOT and DPS guidance,” according to a statement sent just before 1:30 p.m.
