Starlight Spectacular coming to an end

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — In a somber announcement, the Trails and Open Space Coalition (TOSC) said the 2024 Starlight Spectacular bike ride had been cancelled along with future events.

The Starlight Spectacular was an event where cyclists, runners, and hikers would gather at dusk with glow sticks, flashing lights, and brightly lit bikes to guide their way beneath the stars. The event has previously been held at Garden of the Gods park, with the park closing for the event to allow participants an unobstructed nighttime journey through the park.

TOSC said in a post titled “A Fond Farewell” on its website that the cancellation came with falling attendance and other challenges.

“We’re proud to have sponsored the largest and oldest night-time bike event in the region, 27 years!” said TOSC. “But due to falling participation, rising costs, challenges securing liability insurance and difficulty finding key volunteers – it’s time to call it quits.”

TOSC said it is hopeful the event can return in some capacity one day, and it is discussing the possibility of a farewell ride, where previous participants would be invited to wear their favorite event t-shirt and ride the Legacy Loop once it’s completed. Stay tuned to the TOSC website for any updates.
