With Starks hurt, Packers bring back Grant

The Packers brought back RB Ryan Grant, Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com first reported.

Grant played in one game earlier this season for the Redskins. Last season, he played in 15 games with 14 starts for Green Bay and had 134 carries for 559 yards, 19 catches for 268 yards and three total scores.

Green Bay confirmed the signing and placed RB Johnny White on injured reserve.

The Packers are already without RB Cedric Benson for the season (Lisfranc injury) and James Starks may be placed on injured reserve, Wilde reported Tuesday night.

Grant would join Alex Green and John Kuhn in the Packers’ backfield if Starks goes on I.R.

The way we see it

This is an unfortunate development for the Packers, as Starks had been coming on and appeared to be at the root of an amped-up ground game at just the right time, with cold weather approaching. Starks certainly didn’t look like he was ailing on his nifty 22-yard TD run last Sunday against Minnesota.

From all indications, he seemed to be rounding into the same back who provided such a major boost down the stretch two years ago on the teams Super Bowl run. With Starks out, the onus falls on second-year RB Alex Green, whose numbers aren’t the greatest (3.3 yards per carry). But Green has displayed some flashes.

It will be interesting to see if Grant has anything left in the tank. At least his legs are fresh.
