A new Starbucks is opening in downtown SLO — less than a block from an existing one

A new Starbucks is coming to downtown San Luis Obispo — less than a block away from an already existing location.

For several months, the windows of Teazer World Market at 1075 Court St. have been papered over as workers transform the inside into a new business. The tea shop, located on a prominent corner off Higuera Street, closed in July.

On Thursday, Starbucks confirmed the international coffee giant is working to open a new location in that spot, which is very near the current shop in the Downtown Centre.

What is that in SLO County?

“Starbucks is always looking for great locations to better meet the needs of our customers, and we are happy to confirm that we will be opening a new location at 1075 Court St. in San Luis Obispo, CA during the fall of 2024,” a Starbucks spokesperson told The Tribune.

According to the spokesperson, the new shop will not have any impact on the chain’s existing location at 17 Chorro St. near Cal Poly, but they did not comment on potential impacts to the closer 885 Higuera St. spot across from Barnes and Noble and near the Downtown Centre Movie Theater.

A request for further comment on potential impacts to the Higuera Street location were not immediately returned Thursday.

Starbucks has announced plans to transform the closed Teazer World Market tea shop on Court Street into its newest location. It was expected to open in fall 2024.
