Star Wars producer Allison Shearmur dies, aged 54

Longtime Hollywood producer Allison Shearmur has passed away at the age of 54 after a battle with lung cancer.

The producer died on Friday (January 19) at UCLA Medical Center following complications from her lung cancer, according to Variety.

Shearmur had a long career in Hollywood, working as an executive at Disney, Universal, Paramount and Lionsgate before becoming a producer in 2011. As a producer, Shearmur worked on several big film names, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Hunger Games franchise (as an executive producer on the final two films) and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story too.

Shearmur has also earned producing credits on a lot of hit films, including Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Disney's live-action Cinderella and Nerve, as well as service as an executive producer on What To Expect When You're Expecting and Power Rangers.

She also served as a co-producer on the upcoming Chaos Walking too, which stars Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley.

Solo: A Star Wars Story director Ron Howard was among those paying tribute to the producer, calling her death a "tragic loss".

"My heart goes out to Alli's family whom she adored," he added. "Alli was an important colleague & friend over many years who never backed away from any challenge but at all times was both powerfully effective & graciously humanistic. RIP."
