A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... 40 years ago, to be precise, the very first Star Wars movie premiered, making global superstars of its cast and setting the scene for a sci-fi series that would become much-loved around the world.

And tonight, Star Wars: The Last Jedi gets its big European premiere in the splendour of London's iconic Royal Albert Hall. The movie's all-star cast – including Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, Oscar Isaac, Benicio Del Toro, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Joonas Suotamo and Gwendoline Christie – are all expected to hit the red carpet tonight, along with director Rian Johnson and special guests, from Ed Sheeran to Stormzy, via Leigh Francis. Expect also warm tributes to the late, great Carrie Fisher, who makes her final film appearance as General Leia in The Last Jedi.

Princes William and Harry will also be in attendance, along with some of the families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire and the emergency services, charities and organisations who have come to their aid since. Join us here as the premiere gets under way at 5pm for all the latest news, gossip and more from the red carpet – as well as the first reviews, which we're expecting to land some time this evening.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiere team: Laurence Mozafari, Mel Zenebe, Greg Laing, Adam Silverstein, Emily Hutchinson, Rianne Houghton and Tom Chapman
