Stanislaus deputies seek information about vehicle possibly related to Salida homicide

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help identify a vehicle believed to be connected to a drive-by shooting homicide in Salida last April, according to a Wednesday release.

Justin Johnson, 38, of Marysville was fatally shot just before midnight April 22 in a Salida home in the 4600 block of Zinfandel Avenue. Someone in a passing vehicle fired into the home and fatally struck Johnson while he was in the living room, authorities said.

The Wednesday press release included a photo of a dark colored suspect vehicle. The photo, which appears to be a still image taken from video, is too grainy to show the car’s make, model or license plate.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Letras told The Modesto Bee back in April that Johnson was the only one hit out of the nine people in the home at that time, including two toddlers and an elementary school-aged child. Johnson was in Salida to visit family.

Deputies performed life-saving measures, but Johnson later died after being transported to an area hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release more information about the vehicle or possible suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective M. Silva at 209-525-7091 or Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636.
