Stanford QB Keller Chryst transfers to Tennessee
Does Tennessee now have its starting quarterback?
Former Stanford starter Keller Chryst tweeted Thursday night that he was heading to Tennessee for his final season of eligibility. He previously visited the Vols in February.

As a graduate transfer, Chryst is eligible immediately. And the Vols undoubtedly hope he’ll be a stabilizing force in a Tennessee quarterback group that struggled after Josh Dobbs’ graduation.

Jarrett Guarantano and Quinten Dormady competed to be the Vols’ starter before the 2017 season. Dormady won the job to start the season and struggled. Guarantano then started against South Carolina as Tennessee’s attempts to score a touchdown were futile and Dormady suffered a season-ending injury. After Guarantano suffered an ankle injury, the team had to pull a redshirt off Will McBride, who ended up throwing 40 passes.
Tennessee QBs were 179-316 for 2,074 yards passing and 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2017.
Chryst took over as Stanford’s starting quarterback in the 2016 season. He then suffered a torn ACL in the Sun Bowl, but recovered in time to start in 2017. He ended up losing his starting job to sophomore K.J. Costello, who started the team’s bowl game. Chryst finished the season 78-144 passing for 962 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
