Stakes rise: SF-area bus workers threaten strike

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A San Francisco Bay Area transit system will continue to run train service after unions and management agreed to extend labor talks.

A federal mediator said late Tuesday that Bay Area Rapid Transit management and its two largest unions were continuing negotiations and that trains will keep running Wednesday.

The BART unions had said they would go on strike if they didn't reach a contract deal by midnight Monday after extending stalled negotiations from over the weekend.
