Stabilisation outage schedules are applied in Ukraine on 16 May – Ukraine's private energy company

Stabilisation outage schedules will be applied again from 16:00 on 16 May, following the instructions of Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s national energy company.

Quote: "Unfortunately, the situation in the power system remains difficult. From 16:00, following the instructions of Ukrenergo, stabilisation outage schedules will be applied again," the statement said.

Details: At the same time, DTEK Kyiv Electricity Grids stressed that stabilisation blackouts in accordance with the electricity consumption limits set by Ukrenergo will be in effect from 16:00 to 00:00.

"The situation in the power system is extremely difficult, and a significant shortage of electricity is observed. Therefore, after 00:00 to 09:00 on 17 May, power outages may be extended," the company explained.

Background:

  • Ukraine lacks the power generation capacities and electricity imports to cover consumption, and rolling blackouts were introduced in some oblasts this morning, 16 May.

  • Consumer outages that began on 14 May may last until August-September. There will be a shortage in the power system in winter, even at high temperatures, said Yurii Boiko, the adviser to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and a member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrenergo.
