CHICAGO — A crime scene steps away from the Chicago Theatre marquee Thursday evening drew a crowd of perplexed onlookers.

Chicago police said a 30-year-old male was the victim of a stabbing. According to police, the victim was in a verbal altercation with the unknown offender, who then stabbed him in the back with an unidentified sharp object.

The offender fled shortly after that.

Witnesses told WGN News that the stabbing occurred across the intersection of State and Lake, outside the Wit Hotel, and the victim ran to the middle of State Street because officers were already present.

“Everybody was gathering [and] everybody was filming,” said witness Carla Garcia, who captured the moment a police officer held the victim’s hand as he received treatment.

SkyCam9 flew above the scene on State Street, capturing what appeared to be paramedics rendering aid to the male victim on the ground.
