The school says it was one of five teams competing for a chance to represent the El Paso Diocese at the National Catholic Decathlon, which will be taking place this Friday, March 15.

Ten students from St. Pius X competed in individual tests in the following subjects on Saturday, March 2:

  • Current events

  • Fine arts

  • Literature

  • Math

  • Religion

  • Science

  • Social studies

The team took first place in math, third place in literature, religion, english, and science; second place in the super quiz; first place in logic, and first place overall, according to the school.

“Achieving this award was an affirmation of our school’s renewal efforts to adopt a Classical Education curriculum while continuing our mission to provide academic excellence to our students so they are prepared to lead and serve our community. It exemplifies how our renewal efforts are working. Most importantly, it boosted our students’ confidence and reinforced their hard work and dedication.” Our organization conforms to the standards set for us by our Catholic Diocese of El Paso and by the words of Pope Benedict the XVI: “Education is integral to the mission of the church to proclaim the Good News. Its mission is to provide Catholic education, which inspires and prepares students to learn, to work, to live fully, to serve God, and to serve one another,” said St. Pius X Principal Olga Macias.
