St. Pete police find dead man during welfare check at apartment complex

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The St. Petersburg Police Department said it is investigating a homicide after officers found a body Monday night.

According to a release, officers were called to an apartment complex on on 11th Street North at 7:38 p.m. after a caller requested a welfare check for a friend.

Police said the caller had been trying to contact their friend for hours but got no response.

When officers arrived, they found a man dead on the floor “with upper body
trauma,” police said.

At this time, the SPPD is withholding the victim’s name while they contact his family.
