St. Pete man sentenced for selling fentanyl that killed 2 people

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A St. Petersburg man will spend the next 18 years in federal prison for selling fentanyl linked to two fatal overdoses, according to the Department of Justice.

Corey Gaddy, 31, was sentenced Thursday following a seven-year run as an opioid supplier in the county. Gaddy distributed the drugs alongside one of his dealers, Shawn Rodriguez.

While on bond for a heroin offense in 2019, Gaddy supplied fentanyl to Rodriguez, who gave it to a person identified as K.E. on Nov. 6, 2019. the DOJ said K.E. was found dead the following morning of fentanyl toxicity.

According to officials, Gaddy knew of K.E.’s death and continued to distribute the drugs.

In April 2020, Gaddy gave fentanyl to another person, only identified as J.P. Two days after, J.P. was found dead on a fishing boat.

On Nov. 3, 2023, Gaddy was found guilty of the crimes, while his co-conspirator Rodriguez was sentenced on Feb. 7 to 12 years and seven months.

Gaddy was given an 18-year sentence for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances including fentanyl and two counts of distribution of fentanyl.
