St. Patrick Day Parade preparations underway in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Scranton Saints Patrick Parade is only a couple of days away!

28/22 News reporter Kathryn Oleary was live in the Electric City with how local businesses are preparing for the county’s largest annual celebration.

Fully booked and ready for the big day, that’s the energy at the Hilton Scranton.

“People like to come in on Friday, experience it like a little pregame before parade day starts on Saturday,” said Hilton Scranton social media and sales manager Nico Nocera.

While a hotel seems like it’s just a place to rest the Hilton in Scranton has festivities lined up for their guests and anyone else exploring the city this weekend.

“Along with our live entertainment, we will be having a full service outside as well, we will be grilling burgers, hotdogs, chicken fingers just little grab-and-go food while everyone is exploring the city, get a little snack while they’re here,” says Nocera.

With the help of distributors, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are stocked up in restaurants.

“Really what we are doing is just working with our customers to make sure they have enough inventory for the increased volume, and they have special package requests and signs so we provide them for the holiday,” explained Ray Dipietro, general manager at Northeast Eagle Distributors.

As for transportation, Colts has all of Lackawanna County covered with free fares.

“It’s important to us that people are getting around safely that day, it’s a lot of traffic so it gets more cars off the roads so that people can flow more quickly and safely,” stated Keri Savage from Colts.

“I enjoy seeing them having fun, my job is to make sure they get to point A from point B safe and that’s alright with me,” added Colts bus driver Joe Norman.

A little tip for anyone looking for last-minute rooms in hotels, Hilton employees say the best chance to score a room is to see if you can book a two-night stay, such as Friday night and Saturday night.

Parade day is so close! WBRE and WYOU will you see there.
