Gretchen Pearson, a registered nurse with the St. Mary’s Intensive Care Unit, has received the hospital’s systemwide DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence.

Pearson, who resides in Watkinsville, joined St. Mary’s in October 2020. She was nominated for the award by a family member of a patient who needed mechanical thrombectomy procedure to remove a blood clot from his lungs, according to the hospital.

“I needed answers, support and direction. She was able to extensively provide all three,” the family member wrote.

Pearson shared her knowledge of the procedure to help the family know what would happen, according to St. Mary’s.

“Gretchen is a tremendous asset to our team and a relentless advocate for her patients. We are extremely proud of her and all of our DAISY Award recipients,” Ann Gomes, St. Mary’s DAISY Award Committee coordinator and director of orthopedics, said.

The DAISY award is an international recognition program to honor the skills that nurses provide on a daily basis.
