St. Martinville receives state grant to renovate sidewalks, add decorative lights

ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY)– The city of St. Martinville was awarded $1.4 million dollars from the state to renovate sidewalks and add decorative lights to Main Street.

The grant is a part of the Main Street Enhancement Program. The funds will help extend and repair sidewalks from Bernard Street to Denier Street by five feet.

Every hundred feet will also have decorative lights with flower beds. Mayor of Saint Martinville, Jason Willis, said the city applied for grant when he took office back in November 2022.

The project is currently in stage one, which starts at Berard Street and will end by the Old Fred’s Grocery Store.

Willis said this project will help beautify an already historical city.

“We want our cities to be just as beautiful as those cities as well,” Willis said. “We have a historical city, a beautiful city, and we’re proud of our city. We have a brand new Main Street. We have a brand new roundabout, and now we want to come with the sidewalks and we want to come with the lights to match.”

Willis said the design will be out for bid in 30 days. The project is expected to begin this fall.
