St. Louis Powerball player wins $50K after taking second glance at ticket

ST. LOUIS – A Missouri Lottery player mistakenly thought they’d won $100 from the April 6 Powerball drawing.

“I didn’t think I won,” she said. “I looked at it and thought I had won $100.”

She’d matched four of the white ball numbers, but initially failed to see she’d also matched the red Powerball number, too. That red number bumped her winnings from $100 to $50,000.

The winning numbers for the April 6 drawing were 22, 27, 44, 52, and 69, with a Powerball of 23.

The winning ticket was purchased at Royals Liquor in the 6400 block of Gravois Road in south St. Louis City.

“It was shocking,” she said. “I guess it is a little bit life-changing.”

Powerball is a multi-state draw game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.

The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are approximately 1 in 292.2 million, while the likelihood of securing Mega Millions’ top prize is even slimmer, at about 1 in 302.6 million.
