St. Landry Parish inmate killed while assisting with Sheriff’s Office driver training

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – A St. Landry Parish inmate was killed while assisting the Sheriff’s Office in driver training.

According to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, an inmate was assisting with driving training at the St. Landry Parish Airport. The inmate was helping pick up traffic cones along the course. The investigation is ongoing and officials on working on reconstructing the scene, but they believe the side-by-side the inmate was using lost control and flipped. Speed is believed to have been a factor.
